Kids are always changing both physically and mentally, and this change can be very stressful.
Their bodies and minds grow at an alarming rate, Children are constantly having to cope with this constant change, Balance and coordination that can be a big problem as well as trying to cope with everyday learning and social pressures that we seem to put on them.
Can you imagine a Scenario where the Student / Child can be more focused on their work and be more relaxed, more flexible and balanced and developing more Self Confidence seemingly free of Anxiety and Fears,
This can be achieved through Tai Chi for kids and Qigong
The Chinese have been using these exercises for Thousands of years, Sometimes imitating Nature or Animals with an important focus on Breathing, and Concentration, Tai Chi will work to integrate the mind and body, by using the skeletal and muscular systems, and
left brain and right brain. This creates an awareness of moving with good posture and from a lower sense of gravity, Tai chi is for total health, Mental Emotional and Physical,
The movements of Tai Chi for Kids are based on the same principles as Traditional Chinese Medicine. To help Relaxation, and to open the energy gates Stimulating through the Meridian to the organs, nerves and cells of the body the body can work together in harmony Gentle Movements Breathing together with Visualization which helps to make a lot of difference
The American Journal of Medicine and Sports, (Vol III, Number II, March/April 2001) lists a series of studies showing that tai chi can improve concentration, focus, performance, physical and emotional balance, can reduce blood pressure, anxiety and depression, can improve reactions to stressful situations and can improve our overall health by enhancing our immune system.
Treating Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
ADD is a growing problem not only with children, but adults as well.
Tai Chi for Kids is a wonderful therapy for treating ADD it Supports many of the Mood Management Techniques recommended for ADD sufferers.
Recent studies have shown remarkable results of tai chi practice:
A study at the University of Miami, Touch Research Institute showed that adolescents with ADHD showed improved behaviour, less daydreaming and hyperactivity after 10 sessions. (Hernandez-Reif, M., Field, T., & Thimas, E. (2001). Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder: benefits from Tai Chi. Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies, 5, 120-123).
I think Tai chi is a wonderful Tool that we can use to develop Children /youths to cope with Stresses and Strains of growing and to be able to introduce this to our children,
Most Children will benefit From Tai Chi its very effective with students who are overly nervous, or lack self confidence, or those who are frightened,
Also with children whose minds wonder easily they have trouble paying attention, also helps children who are mildly autistic or have learning disabilities including ADD and ADHD,
and at the end of the Scale with stressed out over-achievers.
You can never be too young to learn or do Tai Chi
So they are constantly having to work with new and different bodies, making coordination and balance a big issue. Tai Chi, with its emphasis on balance, is well suited to address all these challenges.
It is not easy to find a tai chi class for Children and often as not it is not a part of the school curriculum maybe one day we can only dream and hope, as I firmly believe that Tai chi taught to children would benefit them as they grow and also help them in Adulthood
The Moves and Exercises I Teach to Children are not complicated and can be integrated into every life as they play, or go about the daily routines they may have and they have to be fun with a lot of visualization as Children are better at this than us Adults,
So it is possible to for teachers and parents to learn these moves and pass it on to the Kids,
